ROASTED GRAM SAMBAR

INGREDIENTS:

Roasted gram  1/4  cup

Grated  coconut  1/3  cup

Green chillies   3 (Or as per requirement)

Big onion  3

Tomatoes  3  Medium size

Mint leaves  5 to 6

Coriander leaves   1  cup

Asafoetida   A pinch

Bengal gram  1  tbsp

Urad dhal  1  tsp

Mustard seeds  1  tsp

Salt

PREPARATION METHOD:

Cut onion and tomatoes lengthwise.

Grind coconut, roasted gram and green chillies in to a smooth paste with water.

Add mint leaves and coriander leaves while grinding.

Add  3 tbsp oil to a hot pan.

Add mustard seeds, bengal gram and urad dhal and fry till bengal gram turns golden.

Add asafoetida and onion and fry it in high flame till onion becomes soft.

Then add tomatoes and curry leaves and fry in high heat for 2 minutes.

Reduce the heat to minimum and close the pan with a lid.

Let the tomato get cooked for few minutes.

Now add ground paste and add sufficient water.

Add salt and cut coriander leaves.

When the sambar is boiling, switch off the heat.

This samber should be thinner than normal sambar.

Serve hot with idlis and dosas.

PS: No need for tamarind paste.
