TOMATO CHUTNEY  II

Ingredients:

Ripe tomatoes  300 grams

Long green chillies  2  (Or as per requirement)

Bengal gram  1 and 1/2  tbsp

Urad dhal  1/2  tsp

Coriander seeds  1/2  tsp

Coriander leaves  1/4  cup

Tender curry leaves  10

Grated coconut  2  tbsp

Salt

Sugar  1  tsp

Mustard seeds  1/2  tsp

Asafoetida  A pinch

PREPARATION METHOD:

Cut tomatoes into big pieces.

Add a tsp of oil to a hot pan and add bengal gram, urad dhal, and coriander seeds.

Fry in medium heat till bengal gram turns golden.

Switch off the stove and add grated coconut and mix well and let it cool.

Transfer the contents to a mixie jar.

Add the tomatoes to a hot pan along with chillies and fry in high heat for 2 to 3 minutes.

Switch off the heat and add curry leaves and mix well. Let it cool.

Dry grind the contents of the mixie jar coarsely.

Now add tomatoes, salt, coriander leaves and sugar and grind well with little water.

Transfer it to a bowl and season it with mustard seeds and asafoetida.

This chutney goes well with idlis, dosas, hot white rice and curd rice.
