Horse gram rasam
This fights chest cold and also helps in weight reduction.
INGREDIENTS:
1. Horse gram 1/4 cup
2. Tamarind paste 2 tbsp
3. Garlic flakes 15
4. Rasam powder 1 and 1/2 tsp
5. Jaggery 2 tsp (optional)
6. Curry leaves and coriander leaves A few
7. Salt
8. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
9. Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
10. Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
11. Small onions 2 or 3
PREPARATION METHOD:
a. Soak horse gram in water for ten hours.
b. Pressure cook horse gram with turmeric powder.
c. Add few drops of oil too.
d. Grind 1 tbsp cooked gram with small onions with little water.
e. Peel garlic flakes and cut it in to length wise pieces.
f. Add garlic flakes and tamarind paste in a bowl.
g. Add 2 cups of water to the bowl and let it boil in medium flame.
h. When the flakes are cooked well add the ground paste.
i. Add rasam powder, salt, jaggery, curry leaves and cooked gram.
j. When rasam starts boiling remove it from heat.
k. Season it with mustard seeds and asafoetida.
l. Add cut coriander leaves and serve hot with white rice.
