Tamarind Flour Upma (Pulli Mavu)
|Tamarind flour Ingredients: Boiled rice 1 cup Grated coconut 1/2 cup Tamarind paste 3 tbsp (as per taste) Long Red chillies 4 Jaggery 3 tbsp (as per taste) Salt Curry leaves A few Bengal gram dhal 2 tbsp Mustard seeds 1 tsp Urad dhal 2 tsp Asafoetida 1/4 tsp Water 3 and 1/2 cups. Preparation Method: Soak rice in water for an hour. Soak bengal gram dhal in water separately for 1/2 an hour. Grind rice, coconut, 2 red chillies, curry leaves and salt. Grind it smoothly with required water. Transfer the batter to a bowl. Add tamarind paste and jaggery to the batter and mix well. Now check the taste and add the remaining water. Heat a broad non stick pan and add 5 tbsp oil. Add mustard seeds, urad dhal and asafoetida. Add broken 2 red chillies and bengal gram dhal. Now add the batter to the pan. Stir it and cook it in high flame. After the batter thickens, slow the heat and cook. Stir it then and there and close it with a lid. After the moisture is absorbed remove the lid. Cook it in slow heat and keep stirring. Cut and turn the batter often till it separates. Serve hot with onion raitha. Cut plain onions, also goes well with tamarind flour.
