Manathakali kai kulambu
|Biological name for manathakali keerai is Black night shade
Ingredients:
Berries of manathakali keerai 1/2 cup
Tuar dhal 2 tbsp
Green chilly 1 big, cut into long thin slices
Tamarind paste 2 tbsp
Red chilly powder 1 tsp
Turmeric powder a pinch
Salt
curry leaves and cilantro leaves a little
Jaggery 1tbsp
For seasoning:
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal 1 tsp
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Oil 3 tbsp
Cooking Method:
Pressure cook tuar dhal with a pinch of turmeric powder
Heat oil in a pan, season with mustard seeds,urad dhal, cut green chilly slices, asafoetida and curry leaves
Add the Berries in medium heat and close the pan with a lid
After all the berries splutter remove the lid and add the cooked tuar dhal and tamarind paste
Add salt jaggery chilly powder and 1/2 cup of water and boil till the gravy thickens
Remove from stove  and add chopped coriander leaves
Enjoy this kulambu(gravy) with white rice and ghee. (ghee is optional)
